Bayern blow as ‘significant’ Kane hurdle emerges as Tottenham ‘insist’ on Man Utd deterring ‘clause’

According to reports, European giants Bayern Munich are still ‘significantly short’ of Tottenham Hotspur’s asking price for Harry Kane.

Bayern Munich have been in talks over Kane over the past couple of weeks after the Englishman was identified as their main summer transfer target.

Kane is out of contract in 2024 and he is attracting interest from several clubs after he scored 30 Premier League goals for Spurs last season.

After looking to leave in 2021, a transfer is far more feasible this summer given Kane’s delicate contract situation.

Man Utd were expected to be in the running for Kane ahead of this summer as Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the England international.

But they have turned their attention to Atalanta youngster Rasmus Hojlund, who is now close to completing his move to Old Trafford ahead of the new season.

Bayern Munich are pushing ahead with their interest in Kane and they have already had a couple of bids rejected for the Tottenham sensation.

Last week, it was reported that Bayern Munich are preparing a club-record £86m bid for Kane and their club officials met with Daniel Levy on Monday in London.

Sky Sports are now reporting that ‘Bayern Munich remain significantly short of Tottenham’s valuation of Kane’ after their meeting.

They state that there is currently a ‘£20m gap in valuation’ but Kane is ‘understood to be open to speaking formally to Bayern should a deal be agreed’.

A further potential obstacle is that ‘Tottenham will insist on a buy-back clause should Kane return to the Premier League in the future’, which could ruin Man Utd’s hopes of finally securing the striker’s services after a couple of years in the Bundesliga.

Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour believes the Kane saga is “swinging towards a departure” at this stage.

“The fact Kane won’t sign a new deal this summer will only increase the prospect of the England captain being on the move in the coming weeks,” Gilmour said on Sky Sports.

“Add into the mix the fact Thomas Tuchel is obsessed with making this happen and Bayern doing everything possible to agree a suitable financial package with Spurs, the pendulum is swinging towards a departure.

“That said, we’re being told Kane is happy concentrating on his football with Tottenham and the option of extending his contract later in the season is not off the table.

“Daniel Levy will make one of the toughest decisions of his career in the weeks ahead. Does he believe there is a chance of a contract extension later in the season? Does he believe Ange Postecoglou and his players can play attacking football and look like trophy winners this early into the project?

“If the answer is no to those key questions then the Premier League is likely to lose one of the best goalscorers around, and Tottenham could use the money to help create balance in their playing squad.”
