Timo Werner

Bayern Munich have registered an interest in Chelsea striker Timo Werner as they require more depth up-front, whilst preparing for life without Robert Lewandowski.

This is according to Football Insider, who claim that Bayern have “concrete interest” in the Germany international.

Werner has struggled since moving to the Blues. He only managed six goals in 35 Premier League appearances but did provide an impressive 12 assists.

Say no to plastic bags (and plastic pitches too)

New Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann worked with Werner at RB Leipzig and brought the best out of the striker as he contributed towards 48 goals in 45 games under Nagelsmann’s management.

A departure from Stamford Bridge could be on the cards for the 25-year-old and he appears to be open to a move back to Germany.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, and Werner is apparently ‘willing’ to go the other way in order to make a deal happen.

The German knows that the club are openly searching for a new talisman, as owner Roman Abramovich has put £150m aside to land the Norwegian sensation.

Due to this, Werner’s agent has ‘touched base’ with Dortmund to inform them that his player would be open joining, according to 90Min.

Speaking about the situation, a 90Min source said: “Werner is not unhappy at Chelsea, far from it – but he also knows the club are looking at a new striker so if he has to move on, he is prepared to do so.”

The London club have also been linked with a move for the aforementioned Lewandowski.

The Poland striker is thought to be one of Thomas Tuchel’s top alternatives if they fail to complete a deal for Haaland.

Sport Bild claim that the Blues have been discussing a potential move for the 32-year-old with agent Pini Zahavi.

The Sun have also claimed that the Pole is ‘interested’ in a Chelsea transfer, and Werner’s willingness to leave the club, alongside Bayern’s interest, could make a deal easier to materialise.

Lewandowski – who scored an incredible 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games last term – has been at the Allianz Arena since 2014 and has two years remaining on his existing deal.
