Jerome Boateng has his heart set on a move to Premier League side Man Utd this summer, according to reports in Italy.

The centre-back left Bayern Munich at the end of the season after his contract at the club came to an end.

Boateng spent ten years at the German champions after one unsuccessful season playing for Manchester City in the Premier League.

Are we all too quick to assume Sancho won’t flop at Man Utd?

He won nine Bundesliga titles, five German Cups and two Champions Leagues in his time at the Allianz Arena and is now pursuing a new challenge.

The 32-year-old has been linked with Sevilla and Real Madrid recently, with Bild reported Christian Falk insisting on Tuesday that Boateng is ‘in talks’ with Sevilla.

While Defensa Central reckons Los Blancos are also in for Boateng as they weigh up potential options to improve their defence.

And now Calciomercato claims Boateng is ‘very disappointed and angry’ that a move hasn’t materialised yet this summer after his ‘painful farewell to Bayern’.

He is hoping for a move to Italy now with his ‘priority’ to remain in the Champions League next season but a move to Man Utd remains the ‘dream’ for Boateng.

His terms are not particularly unreasonable with Boateng – who ‘would have liked to stay’ at Bayern Munich for another season – asking for €4m a year.

Meanwhile, Man Utd have cancelled their pre-season friendly with Preston on Saturday after a number of suspected coronavirus cases in their camp.

The Red Devils were due to travel to Deepdale at the weekend to continue their preparations for the new season, but routine lateral flow testing on Thursday saw some possible positive cases returned.

Those people are now isolating, pending further PCR tests.

A Man Utd statement read: “Maintaining Covid security is a priority for us. Following routine testing of the first-team training group today, we have identified a small number of suspected positive cases. This has led to those people isolating, pending further tests.

“As a precautionary measure based on Covid protocols, we have taken the difficult decision that we will not now be able to play the friendly match against Preston North End this Saturday.

“We regret the disruption to Preston and disappointment caused to fans. Any Manchester United fans who have purchased tickets for the game will be automatically refunded.

“At this stage, we do not expect further disruption around our forthcoming matches, but we will continue to follow Premier League protocols in this regard.”

United are due to close their pre-season programme with a game against Everton at Old Trafford on August 7.
