Bayern boss Nagelsmann builds up Kane as he refuses to rule out move for Tottenham star
Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann admits that a transfer move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane this summer would be “very expensive” for the German club.
The Bundesliga champions have sold Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona this summer after the Poland international requested to leave for a new challenge.
That has led to Bayern being heavily linked with a move for Spurs striker Kane as they look to replace Lewandowski’s brilliant goal record.
30 is the new 27: why the age of Premier League players is increasing
Kane – who attempted to leave Tottenham last summer for Manchester City – contributed 17 goals and nine assists in 37 Premier League appearances last campaign with the England captain taking his total to 248 goals in 386 appearances in all competitions for Spurs.
And Nagelsmann bigged up Kane in a recent press conference when asked about the Tottenham striker, refusing to rule out a future transfer.
“Very expensive, that’s the problem, but a brilliant player,” said Nagelsmann of Kane. “One of the best forwards, perhaps one of two or three centre forwards that who really can play centre forward.
“Last couple of years he didn’t really play centre forward, he dropped a little bit to number 10, he can play number 10 as well.
“Very strong, brilliant with his head, it could be possible that he could score a lot of goals in the Bundesliga. But it will be tough for Bayern Munich, we will see what will happen in the future.”
Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn has also recently discussed Kane, he said: “He’s under contract with Tottenham. Sure, an absolute top striker, but that’s all a dream of the future.”
Kane will be out of contract in the summer of 2024 and there has been talk of the Tottenham striker running his contract down in north London – but former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell thinks Spurs should try and “sign him up for life”.
Campbell told Football Insider: “I wouldn’t like to see that. If he goes to a year left, then the club are in a precarious position – let’s be honest.
“There are good business people everywhere at Spurs – and they know what they need to do. If Harry Kane is going to stay, and there are probably talks going on in the background, then sign him up for life.”
