Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has revealed loan signing Islam Slimani is out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth after suffering a setback in training.
Slimani, a deadline day capture from Leicester who is yet to make his debut, is facing a further fortnight on the sidelines and will now be available for a maximum of just eight games.
Benitez said: “Slimani had a setback the other day, so he will not be available.
“It will at least be a couple of weeks. We have to be careful with him because he had a problem when he arrived.
“He could give us something different, but we think we have enough quality to cope.
“When you go to the last days of the window in this situation, it is always a risk to sign an injured player, but we had to do it.
“Islam was training really hard, he was quite positive and he was training really well. But then he felt this problem again.”
