Pundit tells Tottenham to ‘go out all day to get’ Chelsea flop

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent thinks Tottenham should sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku if Harry Kane leaves in the summer.

Lukaku signed for the Blues in the summer for £97.5m from Inter Milan after a brilliant couple of seasons for the Serie A outfit.

However, it hasn’t worked out at Stamford Bridge this season with the Belgium international only managing 12 Premier League starts this term.

Chelsea played like champions on a mission made possible

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte got the best out of him during their time together at Inter and Bent thinks Spurs should pursue a deal for Lukaku if Kane leaves this summer.

“As long as Antonio Conte’s there, I don’t think Harry Kane would go anywhere,” Bent said on talkSPORT.

“But if worse came to worse and Harry Kane did leave, and go elsewhere, if they can get Lukaku, you’ve seen what Conte can get out of Romelu Lukaku.

“Even down to his nutrition, because that was the best I’ve ever seen him look, last season and at the start of this season.

“If there was an opportunity and Kane leaves and Conte can get Lukaku, I’d go out all day to get it, all day.

“I think as someone who has plenty of Premier League experience, there’d be no one better to replace Harry Kane.

“I know they’re completely different in terms of players, Harry Kane dropping in and [is] technically a better footballer, but Lukaku would be an adequate replacement, certainly with what he did with Conte already. So, I would.”

Kane attempted to force a move to Manchester City last summer but he eventually accepted that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wasn’t going to accept an offer for him.

Rumours are already building ahead of the next transfer window but Kane has done his talking on the pitch with six assists and five goals in his last six matches for Spurs.

He has been that good recently that former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has described Tottenham as a “one-man team” this season.

Merson told Sky Sports: “Spurs are the favourites for top four now. When Harry Kane’s playing like he is, I don’t think too many teams are going to beat them. I saw him go to the Etihad and rip Manchester City apart. I saw him rip West Ham apart, I saw him rip Newcastle apart.

“But you take Kane out of the team, top four ain’t happening for Spurs. It’s as simple as that. When he doesn’t turn up at Burnley away, they get beaten. Tottenham are a one-man team and that’s not being disrespectful.

“You could have a Ferrari, but without an engine in the car it ain’t working. He’s the all-round package, and that’s why he’s the best centre-forward in the world, and I’ve said it for a long, long time.”
