Benteke explains how Palace exploited Chelsea’s tactics

Christian Benteke has explained how Crystal Palace targeted Chelsea to beat them at Stamford Bridge.

Palace boosted their Premier League survival hopes with a shock 2-1 win over Chelsea, whose lead at the top was cut to seven points as a result.

Cesc Fabregas scored an early opener for the hosts but Wilfried Zaha, our early winner, cancelled that strike out within two minutes.

Benteke then scored the winner mere minutes later to provide Sam Allardyce’s men with a timely points boost.

Palace’s tactics were praised in Winners and Losers, but Benteke expanded further on Tuesday.

“Our intention was to defend well and play on the counter,” Benteke said.

“We knew there would be space as Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso would come out of their zone.

“We had to take advantage of that and we did.

“We had confidence that we could and we also had a bit of luck in equalising so quickly.”
