Benzema: Why final goal v Liverpool was not down to ‘luck’
Karim Benzema has dismissed the idea that his goal in the Champions League final was down to “luck”.
Benzema opened the scoring in May’s showpiece in Kiev against Liverpool, capitalising on a mistake from Loris Karius.
The Frenchman stuck out a leg to deflect Karius’s attempt at throwing the ball out to a defender, putting Real Madrid one goal up.
Karius would go on to make another mistake in a 3-1 victory for Real, but Benzema insists his goal was “not a matter of luck”.
“My goal from Kiev, it was not a matter of luck,” he told AS.
“I do not believe in luck, it’s a matter of work.
“It’s an easy goal but you have to be there, in the right place and at the right time, to put it in.”
