Bid for Liverpool man to be ‘submitted’; he ‘reluctantly accepts’ deal with potential ‘buy-back’ clause

According to reports, RB Leipzig will ‘submit’ a ‘second bid’ for Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho and he favours a move to the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old signed for Liverpool last summer after he enjoyed a breakout season for Fulham in 2021/22. He netted ten goals in the Championship as they earned promotion to the Premier League.

Carvalho endured a difficult debut season for the Reds as he only started four times in the league. His best moment came as he scored a late winner for Liverpool against Newcastle at Anfield last August.

The midfielder is likely to want to play more regularly next season and Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he did “not have the best year” in 2022/23.

“I think there is a possibility that maybe Fabio will go on loan or whatever. We will see. The thing is, this was not Fabio’s best year of his career, clearly, in a very young career, but it might have been his most important.

“No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that’s the truth. Because this kind of very talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations, it was OK in the beginning but didn’t work out in the end.”

Last week, it was claimed that Carvalho will ‘reluctantly accept’ a permanent move away from Liverpool this summer.

RB Leipzig have already had one bid for Carvalho turned down but Football Insider are now reporting that they are ‘returning with a second bid for despite Liverpool signalling their reluctance to sell’.

‘Senior figures’ at Liverpool ‘do not wish to sanction the sale of a player they believe will eventually offer an even bigger return on the £7.7m they paid to Fulham last summer’. The report adds.

‘They would instead prefer to sanction a season-long loan deal such as those currently on offer from Burnley, West Ham and Brentford.

‘But the uncertainty of a temporary switch to a side who could end up fighting relegation and would have little reason to consider long-term development is understood to have little appeal to Carvalho.

‘By contrast, an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of young talents such as Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho by featuring regularly in the Bundesliga and Champions League would be seen as a more attractive option.

‘It is hoped that a compromise can ultimately be reached, with the insertion of a buy-back option into any permanent deal one avenue that is likely to be explored.’
