Blackburn boss Steve Kean is planning to play a reasonably strong side.
Under-fire Kean, whose team sit bottom of the Premier League table, is desperate for a win and he is unlikely to make wholesale changes from the side beaten 2-1 by Tottenham on Sunday.
He will have to make at least one alteration with Steven Nzonzi suspended after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season while Vince Grella (hip), Ryan Nelsen (knee), Michel Salgado (hamstring), David Dunn and Scott Dann (both calf) are injured and Jordan Slew cup-tied.
Newcastle will be without midfielder Cheik Tiote and striker Shola Ameobi.
With Ameobi already sidelined for at least a month after pulling a hamstring in Saturday’s win over Wigan, Tiote has also been ruled out by a knee injury suffered in the same game. The Ivory Coast international is rated as doubtful for the Premier League game at Stoke which follows on Monday.
Defender Steven Taylor is doubtful for Wednesday’s game after breaking his nose in a punishing encounter against the Latics.
