Gael Givet will make his first appearance of the season.
Givet, who has been sidelined through illness, will replace Ryan Nelsen at the heart of the defence as the Rovers captain only made his own return to the side for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa following knee surgery in the summer.
Manager Steve Kean has confirmed he will make other changes, with the likes of goalkeeper Mark Bunn, defender Bruno Ribeiro and midfielders Radosav Petrovic and Jason Lowe likely to start.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Gary Megson is set to ring the changes for his side’s visit to Blackburn in the Carling Cup second round.
Winger Ben Marshall impressed on his debut for the club in the 2-1 win over Notts County on Saturday.
The on-loan Stoke player is eligible to feature in the cup but will be rested as Megson prioritises the league.
Skipper Rob Jones is ready to return to action after suffering a broken nose in last week’s defeat to Bury. But like Marshall, he too will sit out the match.
Summer signing Chris O’Grady is sidelined again with the foot problem that has restricted him to just 29 minutes in a Wednesday shirt following his move from Rochdale.
