The latest reports have clarified Todd Boehly’s stance on Mason Mount as the Chelsea playmaker continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Mount is contracted with Chelsea until the summer of 2024, but they have failed to agree on a fresh deal for the midfielder.

The 24-year-old is closing in on 200 appearances for Chelsea and he has played 1,642 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Contract talks between Mount and the club have halted and so it is becoming increasingly likely that he leaves the club in the summer.

Boehly’s stance on the situation has recently been clarified as Simon Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “As far as I know, as far as I’m told, Chelsea want to keep hold of Mount.

“Boehly personally wants to keep hold of Mount. Mount wants to stay at Chelsea. The big problem is, the terms are so far apart at the moment.

“Ultimately, that means that he could end up leaving. Chelsea have made it clear that they will sell players if terms can’t be met, rather than let them leave as free agents the year after.

“We could be looking at Mount leaving Chelsea this summer unless they are prepared to meet halfway, and at the moment they’re not. That’s why the talks broke down.”

Mount has been a key player for Chelsea since breaking through under Frank Lampard and he would be tough to replace.

Liverpool are said to be considering a move for the 23-year-old as they are looking to refresh their midfield this summer.

Paul Merson recently gave his thought on the situation as he believes Chelsea should do everything in their power to keep Mount.

“Mason Mount was by far Chelsea’s best player last season,” Merson told for Sky Sports. “He was outstanding.

“It’s different when you come through the ranks at a football club because you cost nothing. When you get bought for a lot of money you’re viewed as more of an asset.

“Whoever gets Mason Mount has got the biggest result ever. The kid can play. It’s bad business by Chelsea – they should give him what he’s asking for.

“You don’t offload your best players. There are so many players that need to get shipped out of this Chelsea squad before Mount.”

Mount has scored three league goals this season and has provided two assists. Only three players in the Chelsea squad have played more minutes than Mount during this campaign.
