Brighton ‘reject’ insulting £12m offer for wantaway star as Spurs seek cheap reinforcements

Tottenham have had a ‘verbal offer’ worth £12million for Leandro Trossard rejected by Premier League rivals Brighton, according to reports.

Trossard’s relationship with Albion boss Roberto de Zerbi has reportedly broken down with the Belgian international being left out of Saturday’s squad for the win against Liverpool.

De Zerbi’s short stint in charge of Brighton has been very successful as he has seamlessly taken the reins from Graham Potter.

However, falling out with one of his best players is less than ideal; though how his side played in the 3-0 drubbing of Jurgen Klopp’s side shows it can’t have had too much of a negative impact on the squad.

Trossard’s agent has reportedly offered him to several Premier League clubs. Independent journalist Miguel Delaney reported over the weekend that Arsenal have been presented the chance to sign the player.

Josy Comhair – the Belgian’s representative – had this to say in a statement: “Before Leandro left for Qatar, Brighton’s intention was to have Leandro sign on. This did not happen, as the parties did not come to an agreement. Leandro has also indicated that he is ready for his next step.

“Last Monday, the manager humiliated Leandro in group and indicated that he no longer wanted to see him. A manager who has not communicated directly with his player for four weeks is really incomprehensible.

“It is therefore important that Brighton cooperates with a transfer during this transfer period and shows a benevolent attitude, which is beneficial to both parties.”

The 28-year-old is not short of interested teams with Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham also believed to be keen.

And after being ‘offered’ to the Gunners, their arch-rivals, and the club they beat 2-0 on Sunday, have made a bid to sign him.

This is according to The Athletic, who say Spurs have made a ‘verbal offer’ worth £12m.

Unfortunately for them, this has been swiftly rejected by Brighton, ‘who value him far higher’.

Spurs have not followed up with a second bid, the report adds.

It is unclear how much the Seagulls want for Trossard, especially when his relationship with De Zerbi has completely broken down.

The Belgian winger has been one of Brighton’s best players over the last year or so, scoring seven and assisting three in 16 Premier League games this season.

According to Transfermarkt, Trossard is worth €30m (£26.6m), which seems pretty fair given his situation on the south coast.

Spurs could do with a few reinforcements as they face a battle to finish inside the top four this term.

They have a decent amount of attacking options and have been unfortunate to have Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski injured at the same time.

Thankfully for Antonio Conte, both players made a return in Sunday’s home defeat to Arsenal.

Signing a new right-wing-back and central defender should be higher on the agenda this month, but if Trossard is available for a respectable price, it would be a wise signing.
