Bristol City boss breaks bank for Jose’s favourite wine
Lee Johnson says he has spent £450 on flying a bottle over from Portugal to share with Jose Mourinho after Bristol City’s big match against Man Utd on Wednesday.
The Championship high-fliers host Mourinho’s League Cup holders at Ashton Gate on Wednesday, with Robins boss Johnson keen to use the opportunity to benefit from the Portuguese manager’s expertise.
So keen is Johnson to quiz Mourinho, he claims to have imported a bottle of the United boss’s favourite wine – Barca Velha Red 2004 – at a hefty cost.
Asked by BBC Sport if he was looking to sit down with Mourinho, Johnson said: “I hope so. I spent £450 on a bottle of wine!
“I have had to raid my little girl’s piggy bank. It is being flown in especially from Portugal.
“We have done the due diligence and realised Jose likes this particular bottle that has to be poured by an expert.
“So hopefully he’ll come in and have a little chat with me and I’ll try to pick his brain for five or 10 minutes.
“He’s absolutely at the top of his game, with world-class managerial qualities. Any young coaches like myself of course naturally try and emulate coaches like that.”
