Bruce: Fulham ‘got away with’ stamp on Grealish

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce was left to rue a poor first half performance and a crucial decision not going his side’s way.

Tom Cairney’s 23rd-minute goal was the difference as Fulham defeated Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium 1-0 depsite Denis Odoi’s red card.

He felt that Fulham’s Ryan Fredericks should have been sent off for his challenge on Jack Grealish.

“The big moments of the game, the defining moments in a football match. For me, Fredericks should have had a red card.

“He stamped on Jack and right in front of me and they got away with that.

“The second half we were much better. We just needed a break for the goal but we didn’t get it.

“In a big game like today we need those decisions to go our way and we need to play better than we did in the first half.

“I was totally disappointed with the first half in a big game and big occasion.”

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic hailed the promotion after a “fantastic” comeback since December.

“I am excited,” he said. “It’s fantastic for my club and supporters.

“I am satisfied with everything, with what we did today.

“We made a fantastic comeback.”
