Former Hull City defender Alex Bruce thinks his father, Steve, would be interested in taking over as Man Utd boss if the opportunity arose.
Bruce was sacked at the end of last month by Newcastle United with the new owners looking to steer the club away from relegation trouble.
The former Man Utd defender hinted at the time that it could be his last job because of the abuse he suffered after taking over at St James’ Park.
But a report this week claimed that Bruce would be “very keen” on being appointed caretaker manager at Old Trafford following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked but Man Utd said in a statement that they intended to place an interim boss in charge until the end of the season.
And Bruce’s son – who has played under his father a number of times – claimed that his dad would be interested in the Man Utd position and told supporters to “watch this space”.
Bruce jnr told Sky Sports: “Who knows? I think everyone knows he has a great relationship with the club. If they needed him, I’m sure he would be there to help.
“I think they need to get a world-class, elite manager. If they can’t find someone at this present time, then I’m sure he would be up for it.
“In terms of the long-term, it’s important that the hierarchy get the next manager right, and give whoever that person is time to improve the team and time to improve the squad, and put Manchester United where they need to be.”

Meanwhile, Peter Schmeichel has also championed Bruce and believes he would be a safe pair of hands until the end of the season.
“I would love to have somebody who comes in now to put pressure on the players,” Schmeichel told CBS.
“A new voice, get them out there performing. Without making massive changes in style, or system, or something that the next one, the real one, the one they really want, has to come in and then start over again.
“Work on defending, not conceding goals. You cannot concede the number of goals we are doing and anybody who goes in there would need to start with that.
“You have to take small steps, you can’t just jump straight in and say we are going to play a pressing game. You can’t do that, the first thing you have to do is give confidence to everybody in the team.
“I just like the idea, if it is an interim, get somebody who knows the club. Get somebody who is known by the club as well. Somebody like Steve Bruce, that would be fantastic.”
