Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes has reiterated his desire to play in the Premier League.

The Portugal midfielder was heavily linked with Manchester United and Tottenham during the summer but no move was forthcoming, despite Sporting’s willingness to accept around £62million for their prized asset.

Fernandes has had to refocus on performing for Sporting and his form was impressive before he was sent off in a 1-1 draw with Boavista.

But the 25-year-old remains keen to move to the Premier League at some point.

“Of course I’m happy,” he said upon being asked about staying at Sporting. “I have the desire to play in England, but this is the league I want to play.

“There are other clubs from other countries and I have the ambition to get there, but when I came to Portugal I had the ambition to play at Sporting, in a great club, and I’m still delighted.

“Regardless of whether we’re not in the best shape, I believe we’ll quickly return to that desired form.”
