‘Buzzing’ Everton defender Branthwaite signs new long-term contract
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has signed a new three and a half year contract at Goodison Park, with a option for a further year.
The defender joined the club from Carlisle in 2020 and has made four Premier League appearances for the Toffees so far.
The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, accumulating 10 appearances.
Gerrard and Villa must be brave to have a chance at Anfield
Since returning to Merseyside in the summer, the young defender has struggled to break through to the first team, but with age on his side their is plenty of time to grow.
His only minutes so far this season was an hour long showing in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield.
However, the defender has extended his deal with Everton and is delighted to sign with Rafa Benitez’ side long term.
Speaking to evertontv, Branthwaite said: “It feels like Everton have full belief in me so I have to show them what I can do.
“I am buzzing to get the deal done and commit my future to the club. The way Everton have treated me and the pathway I can see are why I was eager to stay longer.
“The games I’ve had show there is a place for me in the side.
“Playing for Everton’s First Team is a massive honour. I want more, so I have to prove I am good enough to be there and keep progressing.
“My main objective is to play as many games as possible and help the team.
“The manager is very good with me. Every day, he is talking to me, helping me with what I need to develop, doing little things after training.
“We are working on my right foot and my passing and the agility side, moving my feet quicker, so I can defend better in one-on-one situations.
“He has been brilliant.”
“I have been in football so many years. Normally in Spain and Italy you have a director of football, so I don’t have any issue with a director of football.
“It’s just to make sure we choose the right one for Everton, and then hopefully we can be successful with that.”
