Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Kevin Campbell believes £100million would be a fair price to pay for the young midfielder.

Mikel Arteta tried to bring the Ecuadorian international to the Emirates in January, but ultimately failed to do so despite lodging a £70m bid.

Caicedo has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since breaking into the Seagulls’ starting XI last April.

Amidst interest from Arsenal during the winter transfer window, the 21-year-old publicly asked his current club to sell him, but Brighton stood firm and actually agreed a new contract with the player in March.

Caicedo’s new deal does not mean a summer transfer is ruled out with Arsenal and Chelsea both vying for his signature.

The former can offer the Brighton star Champions League football and a very nice wage packet, while the Blues do not have any European football next season, but will likely offer the player more money than their London rivals.

Having been very ruthless in the transfer market over the last year, Chelsea are probably more likely to meet Brighton’s asking price, while Arsenal often try to be too shrewd and rarely see an opening bid accepted.

It is unclear how much Brighton want for Caicedo, though a report from The Times has stated that their asking price is £100m.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has justified paying that fee, saying it could work out at around £10m per year if Caicedo stays at his new club for a long time.

“Brighton are going to push the boat and see where they can get to,” Campbell told Egal Talks Football. “They know that he’s going to go, but they want as much as they can.

“£100million might come down to 80, 70. These young players are so good.

“But again, you get a young player like that and you have him for ten years, it’s £8-£10 million a year. When you think about it like that, it’s not a lot of money to have that quality.”

Meanwhile, Ecuadorian outlet Teradeportes say Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Caicedo.

It is believed that Arteta is willing to sign both Caicedo and West Ham captain Declan Rice.

The latter is reportedly the Spaniard’s number-one target and has been since January, but there is competition coming from Bayern Munich.
