Jamie Carragher has explained why Liverpool should be considered “hot favourites” against Everton on Sunday.
Liverpool host Everton at Anfield in the first Merseyside derby of the season on Sunday, hoping to strengthen their grip on a top-four place.
They are 11 points ahead of their bitter rivals after 15 games, with Everton having struggled before replacing Ronald Koeman with Sam Allardyce.
The Reds are in excellent form and come into this game on the back of a 7-0 demolition of Spartak Moscow on Wednesday, and Carragher, who once received as many Ballon d’Or votes as Cristiano Ronaldo, believes they should emerge victorious.
“You come here midweek and watch how well they played in the Champions League and with Liverpool being at home, you still feel Liverpool will get the three points – but you always fear with it being a derby.
“I think Sam Allardyce will give the Everton supporters a little bit more belief coming here. They’ve been coming here a long time now and they always find it very difficult.
“You know he will get them organised defensively but I think if Liverpool play the way they are playing, they’ve got to be hot favourites.”
