Carragher names ‘absolutely sensational’ player he’d love at Liverpool
Jamie Carragher has praised Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne as he is an “absolutely sensational” asset for the Premier League leaders.
Following an unsuccessful spell at Chelsea, De Bruyne returned to the Premier League in 2015 as he joined Man City.
Over the past few seasons, he has established himself as one of the best players in Europe.
1) Man City 2) Liverpool 3) Man Utd when spending big money
The Belgium international has been included in the Premier League Team of the Year on three occasions.
De Bruyne has been key for Man City this term as he has been involved in eight goals from his 16 league appearances.
Carragher has picked De Bruyne as the player he would bring to Liverpool if he could:
“Kevin De Bruyne. I think he’s one of the best players in the world – certainly, in the last two or three years, he’s been the best midfield player in the world,” Carragher said (via The Daily Star).
“People always say Liverpool lack creativity in midfield. I think it’s a bit harsh because I think Liverpool get their creativity from different areas, it’s just the way the team’s set up.
“That midfield three, whoever it is, does a lot of work for the front three and for the full-backs. So, they’ve got a job to do and they do it really well.
“I just think that Kevin De Bruyne is absolutely sensational. I think in that right channel, maybe getting in the way of Trent I don’t know! But I’d say Kevin De Bruyne is the first one that springs to mind.”
“I think it would be something casual. It wouldn’t be like ‘Go and poach him’ or anything like that. But, you know, have a chat and see what his plans are.
“Where does he like to eat? That type of thing. Have a conversation.
“There were two or three times it happened with England with me, where I spoke to Alan Shearer during Euro 96, you know, I had a conversation with him.
“I was more junior at that time so I couldn’t have a serious conversation with him. Definitely with Wayne Rooney, we had a little chat. But he was a younger player, so you can’t put too much pressure on.”
Neville continued: “With Steven [Gerrard], it was a full-on assault. Let’s get him out of there. I want him out of there.
“To be fair, Stevie’s answer, he said: ‘My family and I would never be able to go back to Liverpool ever again’.
“It was a very short conversation. He was very loyal, Liverpool fans. John Terry probably got about ten minutes out of him and I got about 30 seconds.”
