Jamie Carragher has revealed the reason Liverpool decided against signing Ryan Sessegnon before his move to Tottenham.
After months of speculation surrounding his future at Fulham, Sessegnon completed a £25m move to Spurs on transfer deadline day.
The 19-year-old has signed a five-year contract in north London, while Tottenham have the option to extend it by a further 12 months.
However, they viewed him as a prospect and not someone who could have an immediate impact on the first team.
Carragher wrote in his column for the Daily Telegraph: “I know Liverpool watched Ryan Sessegnon, and saw another player for the future rather than someone who could go straight into the team at left-back.”
Jurgen Klopp added youngsters Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott and veteran goalkeeper Adrian to his Liverpool ranks this summer.
