Tottenham transfer target Pape Cheick Diop has been praised for his professional attitude.

Spurs have targeted Celta Vigo midfielder Diop throughout the summer, with French side Lyon also circling.

The 20-year-old is thought to have a release clause of around £25million in his contract with the La Liga side.

The north Londoners hope to sign him for considerably less however, and are hoping to conclude a deal before the transfer deadline in eight days.

Celta captain Hugo Mallo has lauded Diop for his attitude despite the difficult situation.

The right-back told Spanish news agency EFE: “The squad is not affected by this situation because in the end Pape is training just as one of us, as the best.

“It’s strange to see a kid so young in that situation and he does not lose focus.

“Pape must be given an award because he is behaving like a veteran.

“If he leaves, we will be happy because he has decided what to do, and if he stays we will have one more and we will be much happier that he can continue here.”
