The chances of Arsenal signing Juventus midfielder Arthur on loan are “diminishing”, according to David Ornstein.

Mikel Arteta is eager to sign a midfielder this month and the Gunners have been linked with the Brazil international in recent weeks.

Arthur has previously had a spell at Barcelona but he has been with Juventus since 2020. The 25-year-old has played 47 times for the Italian side.

Arsenal technical director Edu has been negotiating with the Juve hierarchy but has failed to come to an agreement with the Serie A club.

According to renowned transfer journalist Ornstein, the Gunners’ chances of bringing Arthur in this month are “diminishing”.

The north Londoners are keen on signing the 25-year-old on loan until the end of the season, however, Juve director Federico Cherubini wants the deal to last 18 months with a €40m buy option included.

Ornstein wrote on Twitter: “Arsenal chances of Arthur loan diminishing. They want him until summer, Juventus want 18 months.

“Edu & Cherubini eventually aligned on 18 months + buy option at €40m but AFC hierarchy reluctant. As things stand it’s not happening”

Another stumbling block is Juventus’ desire to find a replacement for Arthur before letting him leave on loan.

On the rumours, Juve boss Max Allegri said last week: “This is our team and we’re not gonna change anything. Arthur’s part of Brazil national team, he’s an important player.”

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not travel with the rest of the Arsenal squad for their trip to Dubai during the winter break, according to reports.

Aubameyang has not played for Arsenal since the start of December. He has been made to train on his own after his disciplinary breach.

The Athletic have revealed the striker will not be travelling with the rest of the squad to Dubai. The squad are due to travel on Monday and Jack Wilshere is expected to be part of the group.

The report adds that Aubameyang’s wages are ‘likely to be a problem’ for the clubs interested in him. It was revealed earlier this week that six teams are admirers of him.
