Chelsea ‘admire’ €35m PSV winger with Liverpool decision ‘complicating’ pursuit

Reported Chelsea target Noni Madueke celebrates his goal

Chelsea ‘like’ PSV winger Noni Madueke, with the Dutch club reluctant to let him leave following Cody Gakpo’s transfer to Liverpool, says Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues have already signed Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos this month with Joao Felix expected to be the next player through the door.

Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in September despite new co-owner Todd Boehly heavily backing the latter in the summer transfer window.

It has not been a bed of roses for the former Brighton head coach, with Chelsea currently sat 10th in the Premier League with one win from their last eight top-flight encounters.

Every big-money summer signing has failed to impress thus far, which has forced Boehly to get his checkbook out once again this month.

Having already spent over £60million with the £11m loan fee for Felix to follow, it would be surprising to see Chelsea’s business conclude with the signing of the Atletico Madrid forward.

They had expressed an interest in Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, however, the acquisition of Felix probably means the Blues will not bid for the Ukrainian, giving Arsenal a free run to secure the signing.

Having said that, Potter’s side are still being linked with several attacking players.

The latest of which is former Tottenham youngster Noni Madueke – who has been at PSV since 2018.

The England Under-21 winger has developed well in the Netherlands and has been linked with a return to England.

Crystal Palace have previously been linked with the 20-year-old, with Romano now claiming Chelsea ‘admire’ him.

Writing in his CaughtOffside column, the Italian transfer journalist said Madueke is ‘one of many’ players the Blues ‘appreciate’.

However, it will be tricky to sign the winger this month after PSV sold talisman Cody Gakpo to Liverpool, with the Eredivisie club reluctant to let another important forward depart.

It is stated that PSV wanted ‘more than €35m’ to sell Madueke last summer.

In a full story dedicated to Chelsea’s interest in the youngster, it is said the Blues ‘admire’ and ‘like’ Madueke, but are ‘aware’ Gakpo’s move to Anfield ‘could complicate things’.

Chelsea are likely to be ‘keeping an eye on’ the player, as opposed to lining up a January bid.

Potter currently has Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Omari Hutchinson, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Fofana to choose from in and close to Madueke’s position.

While the quantity of options is there, Potter does not have great quality at his disposal with Chelsea seriously struggling domestically.

You would expect Boehly to give the ex-Brighton boss the time to turn things around, though the abrupt sacking of Tuchel is probably keeping him on his toes.
