Chelsea owner Todd Boehly reportedly met with Benjamin Sesko’s agent on Sunday and ‘took a bite out of’ the RB Salzburg striker in a bid to land him ahead of Manchester United, whatever that means.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano brought news of United’s interest in the 19-year-old striker on Monday, before the Salzburg social media folks had a bit of a laugh

‘Manchester United are well informed on Salzburg talent Benjamin Šeško,’ Romano said. ‘He’s one of the players monitored, considered ‘really talented’ – but it’s not imminent or advanced deal as of now.’

Despite the wild claim of United requiring £300m plus Bruno Fernandes to land the Slovenia international, the Austrian club are rumoured to want around £55m.

Rumours intensified in the wake of his game-winning goal against Liverpool in their recent friendly, which also featured a number of other impressive actions.

United are thought to be keen on Sesko as they are ‘looking at alternatives’ with Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘future uncertain’, and a report on Friday claimed they were ready to make an ‘official offer’ for the striker.

But Slovenian outlet Sportklub claim United will face competition from Chelsea, after Boehly met with Sesko’s agent over the weekend.

The report states: ‘Now a new spotlight is coming from the Island to illuminate it. In all seriousness, they obviously took a bite out of Sesko at Chelsea. How else to interpret the meeting between Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic and Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, which took place yesterday.’

Not entirely sure what ‘took a bite’ means, but you get the picture: Boehly met with Basanovic and they discussed Sesko.

The report adds that ‘the meeting will most likely be continued in the following days’, but Salzburg ‘hold strong cards’ after Sesko signed a new contract last summer which runs until 2026.

Having already sold top scorer Karim Adeyemi to Borussia Dortmund for €30m this summer it’s claimed the club are unlikely to sanction Sesko’s sale, though they could be persuaded by a ‘reserve’ deal, which would see a ‘rich buyer’ land the teenager before allowing him to stay with Salzburg on loan.

Although there is strong interest from both Chelsea and Manchester United, the report isn’t ruling out a move elsewhere, claiming there is also interest in Germany, while Spanish ‘football giants’ are also circling.

Chelsea have been linked with a host of strikers this summer following the departure of Romelu Lukaku on loan to Inter Milan, but their focus is still on defensive reinforcements, with reports suggesting they are close to completing a deal for Brighton full-back Marc Cucurella.
