Chelsea complete €45m signing as next Pochettino deal edges closer after successful medical
Chelsea have landed a deal for Axel Disasi with the former Monaco defender joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side on a six-year contract.
Following the injury blow to Wesley Fofana, Chelsea stepped up their interest in Disasi and they have now sealed the deal.
The 25-year-old joins the club in a deal worth €45m and will add to Pochettino’s defensive options for the upcoming season.
“Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage,” Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley told the club website.
“He is ready to take the next step in his career and we are delighted that will be with Chelsea. We welcome him to the club and look forward to him joining up with Mauricio Pochettino and his new teammates in the days ahead.”
The French international featured in 38 league matches for Monaco last season and chipped in with six goal contributions.
Disasi can play at centre half or right back and will give Pochettino a new defensive option ahead of the upcoming season.
Both Man Utd and Newcastle were linked with the defender, but Chelsea managed to win the race to sign him in the end.
With the Disasi deal now wrapped up, Chelsea will turn their attention to Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea have an agreement in place with the Spanish international and a deal seems to be progressing smoothly.
Fabrizio Romano has the latest on the situation as Sanchez seems set to pen a deal with Pochettino’s side.
“Robert Sanchez has completed medical tests as new Chelsea player,” Romano revealed on Twitter.
“Contract set to be signed after deal in place with Brighton, official statement to follow. Brighton to receive £20m fee plus £5m add-ons.”
Sanchez should be a solid signing for Chelsea as he will keep Kepa Arrizabalaga on his toes and push for the number one spot himself.
The 25-year-old is a top Premier League goalkeeper, although he has slipped down the pecking order at Brighton of late.
A fresh challenge elsewhere should do Sanchez the world of good as he will be looking to get back to his best at Stamford Bridge.
With that deal seemingly almost over the line, Chelsea will turn their attention to signing a holding midfielder.
They continue to negotiate for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, although PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes has been identified as an alternative target.
