According to reports, Borussia Monchengladbach are ‘waiting’ for Chelsea to make a bid to sign Marcus Thuram this month in a cut-price deal.

The 25-year-old has been in stunning form for the Bundesliga outfit this season. He has grabbed 13 goals and four assists in 17 outings for Gladbach across all competitions.

He also made a positive impact for France at the World Cup in Qatar. Gladbach run the risk of losing Thuram on a free transfer later this year as his contract is set to expire in the summer.

Gladbach are resigned to Thuram leaving, with Christian Falk reporting that they have the ‘idea of selling him for €10m’ this month so he does not leave on a free transfer in the summer.

Chelsea have already signed Joao Felix on loan this month but Falk confirms that they are still in the market for a striker like Thuram.

‘I heard that Gladbach is still waiting for an offer from Chelsea for Marcus Thuram. Beside João Félix, it’s not the same type of striker, so they still need one,’ Falk wrote for Caught Offside.

‘That’s why they have an idea of selling Thuram for €10m now rather than losing him for free in the summer, then reinvesting the money in a new striker. The offer’s yet to come, of course, and they’re a little bit afraid of Barcelona who have been sweeping up all the available free agents on the market.

‘We heard this will be an interesting solution for Thuram, as he doesn’t feel like he has to move at the moment and wants to win the Torjägerkanone (award for Bundesliga’s top goalscorer). He’s said he doesn’t have to leave but if Chelsea is bringing €10m to the table, you have to do it.’

Chelsea are also being linked with RB Leipzig and Croatia star Josko Gvardiol, who is rated at around €100m.

Falk is reporting that Spurs are also ‘very keen on Gvardiol’ but ‘they’ll have to sell Harry Kane’ to get the deal done.

‘The club have said he’ll stay in the summer but we heard that Christopher Vivell of Chelsea knocked on the door to try and get him either in the winter (they said ‘no’) or the summer,’ Falk added.

‘I think there will be some activity in the summer and here’s the connecting point to the [Harry] Kane rumours: Tottenham are still very keen on Gvardiol, so Bayern are banking on some movement there, as Tottenham need money to buy Gvardiol.

‘They’ll have to sell Kane if he doesn’t extend his contract; if they can agree a deal with Bayern, or Real Madrid perhaps, there will then be money for Gvardiol.’

Kane’s contract is up in 2024 and he is being linked with Manchester United.
