Chelsea are already making plans for the summer transfer window in order to avoid the mistakes which saw them fall from champions to tenth in the space of one season.
The Blues are on course to win a second Premier League title in three years, with Antonio Conte’s side enjoying a ten-point gap at the start of February.
They won the title in 2014/15, but the following campaign saw Jose Mourinho lose his job and the side slip to tenth after a brief relegation battle.
Their signings in the summer after winning the Premier League have been blamed for much of that, with Pedro arriving late, and Asmir Begovic, Radamel Falcao, Baba Rahman, Michael Hector and Papy Djilobdji failing to reinvigorate the squad.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Conte is keen to avoid similar mistakes, and has already drawn up a shortlist of targets.
Matt Law claims that the club are currently in the driving seat to sign Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk, while Celtic striker Moussa Dembele will be targeted again in the summer after an approach was made in January.
Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who played under Conte at Juventus, has been earmarked as the ideal replacement for Diego Costa.
There will also be outgoings, with John Terry not expected to be handed a new contract, and Begovic keen to move on in search of regular football.
