Chelsea will ‘insist’ on signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo this summer despite the club drafting up a list of alternative transfer targets.

The saga surrounding the Brighton star has rumbled on all summer and shows no signs of slowing down soon.

Chelsea are yet to match Brighton’s £100m asking price for the player, but they remain keen on getting a deal over the line.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have already seen a bid of £75m plus £5m in add-ons rejected as Brighton hold out for a higher fee.

It recently came to light that Chelsea have started to consider some alternative targets if they aren’t able to land the Brighton star.

PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes is now on their radar for example, but Fabrizio Romano has clarified that Chelsea will continue to push for Caicedo instead.

“Every day there are many stories related to Moises Caicedo but nothing has changed,” Romano told Caught Offside.

“Chelsea fans want to know what is happening and I can say that the club and Brighton remain in talks. Chelsea will insist on signing the player, that’s for sure.

“The coming days will see the negotiation continue. I’ve no idea what happens in the case where it isn’t done this summer as this is something that the two clubs have never discussed. Chelsea’s focus remains on getting Caicedo this summer.”

There’s no doubt that Caicedo would add a lot to Chelsea’s midfield, but they cannot afford to stall on this deal for much longer with the new season right around the corner.

It’s no secret that Chelsea are looking light in midfield after the losses of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Along with considering Paredes as an alternative target, Chelsea have also been linked with Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde.

It has been suggested that Valverde could fall down the pecking order at Real Madrid this summer with the arrival of Jude Bellingham.

Chelsea look to be keeping an eye on the situation, but a deal for Valverde wouldn’t be easy to pull off. Given his stature in the game, he would likely cost more than Caicedo.

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams and Ajax star Edson Alvarez have also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

Pochettino’s side will continue to assess their options ahead of the new season, but for the time being it seems as if they are still focused on Caicedo.
