The Athletic have confirmed that Crystal Palace star Michael Olise has a £35m release clause in his contract amid interest from Chelsea and Man City.

The 21-year-old was sensational for Crystal Palace last season as he grabbed two goals and 11 assists in the Premier League.

The former Reading starlet has been quick to establish himself in the Premier League and it is hardly a surprise that he is already being linked with a big move elsewhere.

Crystal Palace have already lost Wilfried Zaha this summer so they really could do with keeping Olise (and Eberechi Eze) heading into next season.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson recently admitted that they will have to “fight” to keep Olise.

“We have a fight on our hands to make sure he stays with us,” Hodgson told reporters while discussing Olise’s future.

“We had two outstanding wingers who were almost the best in the league – Michael Olise on the right side and Wilf on the left.

“We don’t have Wilf anymore. Clubs are circling around Olise. We’ve lost five senior players from last season and brought one in – Jefferson Lerma – he’s good and we’re happy to have him in.

“But there is still that hole of five senior players in the squad, two of whom were two of the real stars of the team.”

The Athletic are reporting that Man City are taking ‘serious interest’ in Olise as they attempt to replace Riyad Mahrez, while Chelsea have been ‘excited by his progress and have strong interest in signing him this summer’.

But Olise suffered a ‘serious’ hamstring tear while representing France at the U21 European Championships and this ‘added complication’ could boost Crystal Palace’s hopes of keeping him.

He is ‘not expected’ to be fit enough until October but it is predicted that Chelsea and Man City ‘will consider his purchase more of a longer-term investment’ and could still pursue a deal.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano meanwhile has indicated that “clubs are waiting to understand how long it will be” until Olise is back to full fitness.

“Olise has a release clause at Crystal Palace, worth around £35m, which makes him a very tempting option, but he also had a recent injury, and so clubs are waiting to understand how long it will be until he’s back on the pitch,” Romano said.

“Still, it’s one to watch as Olise is on the list at both Manchester City and Chelsea, with both clubs well informed on his situation. Chelsea are really interested, City are just informed and he’s one of three names in their list. The player is open to making a top club move, of course.”
