Chelsea have reportedly made it clear that they are willing to ‘pay whatever it takes’ to sign reported Manchester United target Victor Osimhen this summer.
The Blues have comfortably been the biggest spenders in Europe this season as they have spent around £600m on new players under new owner Todd Boehly.
Despite this, they are enduring a tough campaign as they currently find themselves around mid-table in the Premier League.
Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk both started for Chelsea for the first time on Friday night as they drew 0-0 at home against Fulham.
Chelsea are certainly lacking up front as Kai Havertz has played as a makeshift striker for much of this season. This is while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is out of favour and Armando Broja is injured.
Osimhen has been in fantastic form for Napoli this season. He has netted 14 goals in 16 league games for the Serie A leaders.
Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti thinks the forward “is the complete package”.
“There is everything in that goal, technical quality, character to juggle the ball between two defenders, then he hit this rocket into the net, as he really has got a cannon for a foot,” Spalletti said.
“He has physical strength, accepts the challenge, tracks back to help, is good in the air. He is the complete package.”
Man Utd also need a striker and they are being linked with Osimhen ahead of this summer. But The Mirror are reporting that Chelsea ‘will pay whatever it takes to beat United’ to the signing.
The Blues have ‘joined the hunt’ for the attacker, who is being targeted by Man Utd and Ligue 1 giants PSG.
Napoli ‘want around £100m’ for their prized asset but the report indicated that this will not put off Chelsea.
Ex-Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison thinks a move to Chelsea would be the “worst” one he could make.
“If someone is going to go in for ridiculous money,” said Hutchison. “The problem is, if Mudryk is £100 million, then this guy is £300 million.
“I honestly hope that he stays at Napoli. This is not a dig at Chelsea, I promise it’s not. The worst move he could make, if they want in this window, £200 million whatever the number is. That would be the worst choice he would make.
“He’s an all-out striker that runs around. Amazing touch. He’s chaos in a great way. Chelsea would play it sideways and sideways. That would be the worst move he could make.
“Man City aren’t going to sign him because they have Haaland. Liverpool have done their money on Nunez.”
