Chelsea are willing to loan out defenders Fikayo Tomori and Antonio Rudiger in January to trim down their squad, according to a report.

Both Tomori and Rudiger have been benched this season as manager Frank Lampard continues to use Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma in defence.

That’s left the players considering their futures at Stamford Bridge.

According to ESPN, club officials will now allow them to leave on loan during the January transfer window.

The report states that Lampard wants to reduce his squad size in order to ensure every player is happy.

He apparently wants to persevere with the partnership of Silva and Zouma, which has worked so far this campaign.

The Blues have conceded ten goals in their first ten Premier League matches. But they’ve looked more assured at the back this campaign thanks to the experience and influence of Silva.

After a slow start in England, the Brazilian centre back has picked up some form and seems to be having a great impact on his teammate Zouma.

Chelsea currently sit third in the Premier League table and look like genuine title contenders.

Tomori has made three appearances in all competitions so far, while Rudiger has featured four times.

Most of those matches have been in cup competitions such as the Carabao Cup, demonstrating Lampard’s reliance on Silva and Zouma in the big games.

Tomori has great potential and looks like a future Chelsea starter. In the mean time, he might have to go out on loan in order to continue his development.

The Englishman has previously been linked with a move to Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton.
