Chelsea ‘reach agreement’ to sign ex-Tottenham winger to increase Boehly’s January spending to €178.5m

Chelsea have reportedly ‘reached an agreement’ to sign ex-Tottenham Hotspur winger Noni Madueke from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
Blues co-owner Todd Boehly has certainly not messed around since completing his takeover of the club last year.
Over €280m was spent in the summer as they signed the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana.
The club have since sacked Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with ex-Brighton boss Graham Potter. They have spent heavily but they are struggling on the pitch as they currently find themselves down in tenth in the Premier League.
Boehly’s heavy spending has continued this month. Up to now, their most notable signing is Mykhaylo Mudryk as they recruited him ahead of Arsenal.
Chelsea are also spending a significant loan fee to have Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid until the summer. This is while they have spent fees to bring in youngsters Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana.
Now Mudueke is set to be their sixth signing of the January transfer window. He had spells at Crystal Palace and Tottenham as an academy player but he has been with PSV since 2018.
The England U21 international has impressed for the Dutch side over the past couple of seasons. He has missed much of this campaign through injury but he has 34 goal involvements in 80 outings for PSV at senior level.
Madueke has emerged as a potential Chelsea target in recent days and the London outfit have now ‘reached an agreement’ to sign him from the Eredivisie side, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
He adds that ‘the fee for Madueke is expected to be around €35million (£30m)’. According to transfermarkt, this will take their spending this month to €178.5m.
The 20-year-old ‘is now expected to travel to London’ and his transfer to Chelsea will be completed within the next couple of days.
A separate report from Fabrizio Romano has provided more details. He notes that Chelsea have been ‘in constant contract with Madueke’s agent’ to try to seal the deal.
‘The Chelsea board were very keen to sign Madueke, even with the addition of Mykhaylo Mudryk in this transfer window, with the Blues continuing to work on bringing in top young talent from around the world,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside.
‘Chelsea have been in constant contact with Madueke’s agent, with personal terms not a problem, and the 20-year-old now edging closer to completing his move to west London.
‘Chelsea have acted with real urgency to strengthen their attack this January, following slightly indifferent form from the likes of Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and others.
‘Marcus Thuram is another player they’ve made contact over signing this winter, while they’ve already secured the signings of Mudryk, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Joao Felix on loan.’
