Chelsea ‘seriously pushing’ to sign £8.6m Dortmund star in January after agent admission

Chelsea are ‘seriously pushing’ to sign Borussia Dortmund star Youssoufa Moukoko in January.

The 18-year-old has been part of the first-team set up at Dortmund for the last two years and has six goals and four assists to his name in the Bundesliga this season.

Moukoko – who was part of the Germany squad in Qatar – has just six months left on his deal with the German giants and has a number of suitors looking to steal him away on the cheap.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked but a report earlier this week claimed chelsea were in advanced talks to sign the teenager in January for just £8.6m.

And now Moukoko’s agent Patrick Williams has confirmed they are no closer to agreeing an extension at Dortmund

He said: “I can confirm that we are currently not closing in on agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign a new contract.”

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg tweeted: ‘Contract extension at BVB is NOT close as his agent confirms at Sky. Offer to less & NOT as reported between €5-6m. Much less!

‘#CFC seriously pushing for him. There were concrete talks about numbers. Player wants a decision soon.’

Dortmund want to keep Moukoko but would rather receive some sort of transfer fee next month rather than losing him for free in the summer.

Meanwhile, Noel Whelan has warned Chelsea that Liverpool could beat them to Moukoko if they make a serious bid to sign him.

“You can see why there is so much interest in a player like this from the Premier League giants,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“He’s already a key player for Dortmund, a huge club themselves, and he’s only just turned 18. That tells you he’s something special.

“Chelsea are investing massively under their new ownership and are blowing everyone out of the water. But don’t underestimate what a huge attraction Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are for players coming from the Bundesliga. They could be the ones who blow Chelsea away.

“Roberto Firmino is out of contract at the end of the season and, even if he signs an extension, he will need to be replaced in the next year or two. So, I can see why Liverpool are pushing on this one”.
