Chelsea have praised new £57million signing Jorginho as the ‘perfect fit’ for manager Maurizio Sarri’s system.
The Blues officially appointed Sarri as their new manager early on Saturday, following that up with the signing of Jorginho mere hours later.
Both arrive from Napoli after protracted discussions, involving the removal of former manager Antonio Conte.
Jorginho has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the Chelsea website hailing him as a ‘vital cog’ and the ‘perfect fit’ under Sarri.
The 26-year-old was wanted by clubs throughout Europe, so much so that Manchester City feel he has been ‘bullied’ into joining Chelsea.
“I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea,” he told the club’s official website. “It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy.
“I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win.”
Club director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea.
“He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad.
“He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge.”
