Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger is a doubt for his side’s upcoming game against Brentford as he was absent from Germany’s latest training session, according to reports.

The 28-year-old joined the Blues in 2017 for around £29m. He was in and out of the team under Frank Lampard, but he has been an ever-present for Chelsea since Thomas Tuchel took over.

Rudiger has already played ten times for the Premier League leaders this season.

The defender has been capped 48 times by Germany and he is part of their squad for this week’s World Cup qualifiers.

He played the full 90 minutes as Germany beat Romania 2-1 on Friday. They are set to face North Macedonia on Monday evening.

German outlet Bild have reported that the Chelsea star was absent from training on Sunday. While his teammates prepared for Monday’s game, he stayed at the club hotel as a result of a back issue.

His availability is yet to be confirmed for the North Macedonia clash. Therefore, he is currently a doubt for Chelsea’s game against Brentford next Saturday.

Elsewhere, Fikayo Tomori has opened up on his “difficult” Chelsea departure:

“Since I have been at Milan, I haven’t really thought about it. It was a difficult time – every footballer wants to play, and every footballer wants to show themselves on the pitch.

“When you are not able to do that it is difficult – and being able to overcome and forget about that is part of the reason why it is now going so well.

“I didn’t really dwell on it and just moved on and put it as part of football, part of life. It feels good, to have been here and then out of it for a while. Then to be back, I am really happy. So I am really comfortable there, really settled and it’s led me to be here, so it’s all going really well.

“I had a really good support system with my family and my friends. Now I’ve overcome that I want to take it further and keep progressing

“It feels good, to have been here and then out of it for a while, and then to be back, I am really happy.

“And now my goal is to stay here, with my performances here and back in Milan.”
