Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui has explained why Thibaut Courtois is yet to make his debut for the club.
Courtois joined Real from Chelsea in the summer, signing for £35million.
But the Belgian is yet to make his first appearance, missing the club’s Super Cup defeat to former side Atletico Madrid, and sitting on the bench against both Getafe and Girona.
Lopetegui, appointed as Zinedine Zidane’s replacement this summer, has given Keylor Navas the nod thus far.
The former Spain manager has explained his reasons, all while Chelsea can be heard sniggering in the background – even if he did owe them nothing.
“It’s not a situation that’s easy to understand, but it’s simple enough to explain,” he said. “I’ve got some really good options in goal and there are no problems in that area. We’ll decide what’s best for each game.
“Keylor got the nod today and did very well. There’s great competition and that makes us stronger in the goalkeeping department. I’ve got some thoughts in my mind, but I’m not going to share them.
“Over the course of the season, I’ll look for solutions to solve the next immediate challenge.”
