Brad Friedel believes Christian Pulisic would be a success at Liverpool should he secure a move from Chelsea to Anfield.

The American international is yet to find form since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

He is having to compete with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech for a place in Tuchel’s starting lineup.

His situation has led to rumours of a potential Liverpool move. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is thought to be a big fan of Pulisic, having seen him briefly as a youngster during his time with Dortmund.

Speaking about Pulisic, Friedel said (via Goal): “I think Liverpool’s system is a good one for Christian, without a doubt.

“He’s very quick. His first steps are quick and when he gets going he’s quick. The pressing style that Jurgen Klopp likes to play under, then the quick counter-attack and the runs through the lines, I think he would be able to perform very well in that system.

“I have no idea if that’s a player that they’re looking at, but that type of system would be ideal for someone like Christian.”

Pulisic looked set to fill Eden Hazard’s boots and become Chelsea’s next star when he signed in 2019.

Things haven’t quite worked out for him so far, although he could yet flourish under Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

Friedel continued: “Pulisic has the potential to be the most successful American player in mainland Europe. But it is still relatively early days with a new head coach at Chelsea who I hope he can do well under.

“At the beginning of the season, he was unplayable at times and doing really well. Let’s just see how it goes for the US. He is our best attacking player, and we’ve got a few of them. We need him to stay injury free, that’s for sure.”

The 22-year-old registered an assist in Chelsea’s recent Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.

He set up left-back Emerson Palmieri for the second goal as they reached the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition.

Pulisic is expected to feature in Chelsea’s next game. They face Sheffield United on Sunday in the FA Cup.
