Liverpool will be Erling Haaland’s next club when he decides to leave Borussia Dortmund, according to RB Salzburg sports director Christoph Freund.

Haaland swapped Red Bull Salzburg for Borussia Dortmund in January after blasting 28 goals in 22 games for the Austrian side.

The Bundesliga side paid Haaland’s release clause of €22.5m, while also handing the 19-year-old’s advisor, Mino Raiola a €10m payment, and then immediately slapped a release clause in his four-and-a-half-year deal.

The Norwegian has scored 23 goals in 26 appearances since Dortmund beat Man Utd to his signing, with the Red Devils not willing to insert a release clause.

However, that hasn’t stopped United from being linked with another move for the Bundesliga star.

A recent report claimed that ‘bridges are said to remain intact between [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer and the player’ and Dortmund will have to ‘allow Haaland to leave if there is a bid of €75 million (about £68 million) in the summer of 2022’.

Speaking to Sky90, Freund said of Haaland’s move from Salzburg to Dortmund: “Erling really bit us. The talks with Dortmund were short. They told they had come to an agreement. we didn’t have that much influence on it, but it worked out correctly.

“Many clubs were interested and go it in touch. In the end, it was a decision made by the player.”

Despite rumours of a possible move to United, Freund claims that Liverpool will be his next destination.

Welt explain (via Sport Witness): ‘When TV expert Lothar Matthäus enumerated possible switch options, his friend [Freund] agreed with they keyword Liverpool FC: “He will land there”.’

Freund continued: “He can play for any club in the world. With his mentality, his will and self confidence, he will be able to make a mark on European football in the next ten years.”
