Manchester City chief operating officer Omar Berrada has claimed that winning the Premier League is a better gauge of the “best team” than triumphing in the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool to glory in the Champions League last season as Pep Guardiola’s side pipped the Reds to the Premier League title by one point.
Liverpool are currently eight points clear from City in the Premier League this term after the Citizens lost 2-0 at home to Wolves on Sunday.
And Berrada thinks Liverpool will only be considered the “best team” if they win the Premier League title this season.
“A lot, of course, but what we don’t want to do is obsess. It is something we believe will come,” Berrada said when asked how much City wanted to win the Champions League.
“Of course it would give us one more point at the brand level, but it is a very random competition. Especially in the elimination phase.
“I would say that not always the best team wins the Champions League, but usually the best team wins the league.”
