Former Man City keeper David James believes they should let ‘club legend’ Sergio Aguero leave for Paris Saint-Germain.

The striker has been linked with a move to the French capital following their appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.

It’s thought that the Argentine wants to sign his compatriot as a signal of intent to their European rivals.

And James thinks City should allow Aguero to leave in order to move on from their reliance on him.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, the former England international said: “I would let him go.

“This isn’t taking anything away from him, he is a legend at Man City and always will be. There comes a point though when you are relying on him and can’t move forward. They have proved that they can move forward without him.

“I think he has finished top goalscorer in the Premier League once, we are not talking about an Alan Shearer that did it three years in a row.

“As much as he is a Man City legend and a dangerous threat, he spends a lot of time injured. He isn’t always the top scorer in the Premier League, and I think Man City are slowly trying to find that instinct where multiple high goalscorers are more important than one outstanding goalscorer.

“If you can get some money for him from PSG, especially considering the amount of time he has been injured, take it.

“It will be a fond farewell and I’m sure there will be a number of suitors that would like to come to Man City to fill his position.”

Aguero has scored two goals in nine appearances this campaign. He’s spent most of the season on the sidelines through injury.

He’s become a club legend ever since scoring the goal that won them the Premier League title back in 2012.

But City are gradually getting used to life without him up front.

Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Ferran Torres have all scored seven goals so far. Pep Guardiola’s side are becoming more reliant on their wingers and midfielders to contribute with goals.
