Champions League draw

Liverpool vs Rangers is one of the standout ties in the Champions League group stages, with them drawn into Group A alongside Ajax and Napoli.

Man City meanwhile will face Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and Copenhagen in Group G.

This sets up Erling Haaland to battle his former club following his £51m move to Pep Guardiola’s side earlier this summer.

There is always a so-called group of death in the Champions League and this time around it is Group C.

Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona and Inter Milan entered the group as part of the first three pots. Viktoria Plzen are the final side in that group, the poor sods.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur meanwhile have both been handed favourable draws.

The Blues will come up against Serie A champions AC Milan, as well as FC Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.

This is while Antonio Conte’s side face Eintracht Frankfurt, Sporting Lisbon and Marseille. They could come up against Cristiano Ronaldo though, if reports are to be believed.

Real Madrid defeated Liverpool in the final of last year’s competition. Celtic will challenge the holders in the group stages.

Ange Postecoglou’s team are in Group F alongside Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk.

This season’s Champions League clubs will be tested more than in previous years as their group games will be crammed into a nine-week block. It is usually spread over twelve weeks.

The games will take place between September 6 to November 2 with the winter World Cup in Qatar getting underway on November 20.

Those who advance in the competition will compete in the round of 16 between February 14 and March 15.

The two clubs who go all the way to the final will face each other at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. This game is set for June 10.

You have to go back to 2005 for the last Champions League final in Istanbul. This is of course the year Liverpool battled back from 3-0 down to eventually beat AC Milan on penalties to lift the trophy.
