Substitute Modou Sougou rescued a point for Wednesday with a last-minute equaliser following Bond’s handling error after Danny Williams opened the scoring early in the second half.
After a largely uneventful first half, Wednesday survived a scare soon after the restart when keeper Lewis Price failed to hold on to Orlando Sa’s firm drive and Hal Robson-Kanu – under pressure from Tom Lees – failed to hit the target from the rebound.
The respite was only temporary, however, as Williams put Reading in front in the 9th minute, firing past Price from inside the area after receiving the ball from the lively Sa.
Sougou ensured that Wednesday’s unbeaten home record remained intact when he pounced in the area after Bond spilled a deep cross from Rhoys Wiggins, finding the net with a first-time shot.
Clarke said: “We bossed the game from start to finish and got heavily punished for a mistake at the end.
“Jonathan is a young goalkeeper, but even senior goalkeepers make mistakes. This is the life of a goalkeeper. At some stage this season, Jonathan will make a save which will win us a game.
“The performance levels have been good this season. The next game can’t come quick enough.
“The game should have been over in the last 10 minutes, but I’ve been in football a long time and it’s never over until it’s over. We tried to make some changes just to see the game out. The crowd got right behind Wednesday.
“I thought defensively we were solid and we didn’t give anything away.”
Wednesday head coach Carlos Cravalhal said: “It was not a good night, but we won one point – we didn’t lose two points.
“It was a game when Lewis Price did not have much work to do. The opposition also didn’t create many chances.
“It wasn’t a good match. A lot of players were not at the same level they usually play.
“Atdhe Nuhiu and Keiren Westwood weren’t able to play due to injury and Glenn Loovens then had to go off with a leg problem, which made it a very difficult night for us.
“A lot of teams have also drawn this week. Our players fought and tried to win. These are the positives, but we don’t have too many positives to talk about from the game.
“They controlled the game in the first half and we lost a little confidence. To have little luck, we must fight.”
