Confusion reigns over Everton’s pursuit of £30m winger

Matt Stead

Everton are either ‘trying to sign’ Bordeaux winger Malcom, or are ‘not in the market’ for Bordeaux winger Malcom. You can understand the confusion.

Everton emerged as the most likely suitors for Malcom on Tuesday evening, with Sky Sports reporting that the Toffees were ‘in advanced talks’ to sign him.

A £30million deal plus add-ons has been proposed, with the Brazilian’s wage set at a reported £80,000 a week.

The Daily Mirror back up these claims by stating that Everton ‘are trying to sign’ the player, and that ‘talks are scheduled this week’ with Stephane Martin, the Bordeaux chairman.

But the Liverpool Echo, part of the same publisher as the Mirror, offer conflicting reports.

They insist Everton ‘are not in the market’ for Malcom, and that the suggestions on Tuesday from Sky were ‘wide of the mark’.

It is added that ‘there has been no contact’ between Everton and Bordeaux over the Brazilian.

Is that all clear?
