Antonio Conte wants to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of Manchester United, according to reports.

The Italian left Chelsea just under a year ago after failing to finish in the Premier League top four and he’s been out of work ever since.

Conte had led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge but he struggled in his second season, despite winning the FA Cup.

Roma, Inter and Juventus have all been credited with interest in making Conte their manager in recent times but Gazzetta dello Sport claims he is ready to wait to land the ideal role.

The Italian newspaper adds that Conte – who was linked after Jose Mourinho’s sacking – sees the United job as the most ‘striking’ option available to him.

Solskjaer had an unbelievable start as the Red Devils caretaker boss but since getting the job on a permanent basis his side’s form has dipped dramatically.

United are currently on a run of two wins in nine matches and are three points off the top four in the Premier League with two matches to go.

The report continues by saying if this form continues, and United decide to bring Solskjaer’s reign to an end, then Conte wants to be in a position where he can be considered for the job.
