Conte finding it ‘difficult’ to land ‘great players’

Antonio Conte admits Chelsea aren’t close to landing any players in the January transfer window.

The Blues are currently top of the Premier League table – five points clear of their nearest rivals Liverpool – after Tottenham ended their impressive run streak.

Conte is keen to add to his squad during the window but is refusing to buy players for the sake of it and instead wants to land “class signings”.

“(We are) not close, no. But we have some ideas (about signings) about this. We are working around these ideas and then we’ll try to take this idea,” Conte told a press conference on Friday.

“I’m not sure (if we will sign someone). In January it’s always difficult to buy great players, class signings.

“It’s very difficult to buy important players because the other teams don’t want to sell.

“For this reason it’s important to find the right solution if there are the right solutions. To find the right player to help us improve. To buy just to buy? I don’t like.

“Also, I have a group of players, a squad that are working very well.

“They’re showing me great behaviour, great commitment, I’m pleased to work with these players.”
