Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has ruled out taking a “stupid risk” on Eden Hazard against Qarabag on Tuesday night.
The Belgian came off the bench for the final 12 minutes of the Blues’ win at Chelsea on Saturday but will not start against the Azerbaijani team.
“Eden Hazard is in the squad. He is working very well to find the best condition,” said Conte on Monday. “But I think he needs a bit of time to continue to improve and not to take a stupid risk. He will be on the bench.
“I think last season he played an amazing season. He’s a top player and we are looking forward to having him in our team and our squad.
“Hazard is an important player for us and we play with our team and we are forced to play without him because of injury. We try to win every game.”
Conte also hinted that top scorer Alvaro Morata will be rested for the game against the Champions League minnows, saying: “I think is playing very well, scoring and involved in our style of football.
“He’s improving a lot but don’t forget Morata played a whole game with Spain and then the whole game against Leicester.
“I have to check many situations and make the best decisions for tomorrrow. It’s normal, when you have to play seven games in 21 days to rotate my players. I’m very calm about this, I trust my players.
“You must pay great attention and this type of game I like to call this game a ‘tricky’ game.
“But for sure we played two days ago. Then we play tomorrow, then a tough game against Arsenal. Then Carabao Cup, etc. It’s normal and there is the necessity to do rotation, otherwise you arrive to play the last two games without any energy.”
Danny Drinkwater is the only injury doubt for the game.
