Antonio Conte has refused to be drawn over comments from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho that Chelsea are leading the Premier League title race as they win by playing “defensive”.
Following their 1-1 draw with Burnley on Sunday, the Blues are now 10 points clear at the top of the standings with 13 games left of the season.
United beat Watford 2-0 on Saturday to extend their own good run of form but that didn’t stop Mourinho trying to engage in mind games with his rival.
“Chelsea are a very good defensive team,” insisted Mourinho.
“They defend very well and with lots of players and I think in this situation a very defensive team wins the title with counter-attack goals and set pieces goals so I don’t think they will let it slip but football is football.”
However, Conte wouldn’t rise to Mourinho’s suggestions, instead deciding to take a laid-back approach to the comments.
“Yeah [I heard it], but I don’t like to reply to other coaches,” said Conte.
“I don’t like this jokey play. I have a bit of experience about this.
“He’s playing. I have the experience to understand this.”
