Thibaut Courtois has questioned Antonio Conte’s decision to substitute Eden Hazard against Manchester United.
Chelsea slipped to a 2-1 defeat against United on Sunday, despite going ahead in the first half through Willian.
The Blues, just as they had against Barcelona in their previous game, had taken the lead but proceeded to defend instead of searching for another goal.
United equalised through Romelu Lukaku before Jesse Lingard scored the winner, and Courtois was far from happy with his teammates or manager.
“After our goal, we conceded a counter-attacking goal just like last Tuesday but in the second half we had less of the ball, but even then we should never have lost this match,” he told Belgian TV channel Play Sports.
“If you do not do the small things well in top matches, you lose, which is what happened today.”
The keeper quickly moved on to Hazard, who was substituted at 1-1 in the 73rd minute; United would score the winner two minutes later.
“I have no explanation for the sub of Hazard”, Courtois added. “I had not expected him to take him off but it is a choice of the manager. He must explain. I can’t look into his head.
“Players like Eden should have 90 minutes on the pitch. He can always bring something extra offensive.”
